Why Hunger Strike with Guantanamo Prisoners? Dr. Elizabeth Interviews Happy O, Joyful Compassion In Action Called “Glide”, Don Miguel Ruiz Jr & Sr to Speak in Sedona, Plus Bliss Tips from the Open Road

May 4, 2013
Dear Blooming Blissologist,

BU-Logo-288“When is the last time you sang out an entire conversation? Not including later this evening.” – Happy Oasis

“All serious daring starts from within.” – Harriet Beecher Stowe

“We apologize for the inconvenience, but this is a revolution.” – Marcos

We prefer an evolution, an ecstatic evolution. Galaxies of gladitude to you for reading the Bliss U News, embodying the Blissiplines within, blissing this news forth to a blisszillion blissologists emerging around the planet, and especially anyone you know with a bliss-deficiency.

Bliss Tip: Join us for at least a full day this week as we fast in sympathetic support of the prisoners of Guantanamo Bay who have been held without trial for endless years and have been on hunger strike, crying out to their death for our help. Like us, you may be inspired to broadcast why you are fasting or juicing via social media to encouraging others, plus, notify the press and call the President.

Imagine: the USA as an actively compassionate nation where Americans fast together until kindness and freedom are achieved.

“You’ve got to be kidding,” someone might be thinking. “That’s not a bliss tip. How could the above “Bliss Tip” possibly be bliss-inducing?” Being actively kind, caring and compassionate blasts open the heart. This leads to feelings of oneness and an ecstatic array of blissful states of being.

From the Bliss Book: Asking conscious sunrise questions awakens wondrous possibilities. Which sunrise questions do you ask yourself upon coming to consciousness? These questions are among the author’s morning friends. How would you answer them? Before you do, if you are not already there, feel free to slink back into a bed, hammock, lawn, yoga mat, or couch to luxuriate for optimal ambience.

  • What are the blessings of this moment?
  • What are my highest ideals and how can I live them today?
  • How can I greet the day in a healthy way?
  • How can I enhance calmness and deepen peace?
  • What would creativity love to explore?
  • What is the focus of my enthusiasm?
  • What are my happiest truths and how can I manifest them today?
  • What would the universe like me to do today?
  • What would positively blow my mind?
  • What can I do to make this day absolutely dreamy for myself and others?

How can we thank you hundreds of Sedona earth angels, treasured friends, who have enthusiastically welcomed us home with open arms, open homes, giggles, songs, gifts and gatherings in just the past two days! We love you too!

This dawn, back near the spectacularity called Sedona, having slipped away from humanity, we awoke amidst sunblessed cliffs in the wilderness to the swooshing sounds of a fleet of low-flying hot air balloons above, then passed the day listening to stories and customs, coming to know new-old friends, Hopi elders and friends of Hopi elders, as we enter into a new cultural world.

We love living in this “land yacht” (creational vehicle), slowly roving the planet, and recommend that you also may like this particular godzillionaire lifestyle, because just about everywhere we go, just about everyone we meet says, “I would love to live the way you are living!”

Let those emails sit unanswered. Let go of any stuff holding you back. And give yourself, my friend, to the open road. Walt Whitman would likely drive a small rv if he were alive today. Marco Polo would find it an incredible advancement. Yet, this particular humble, used Dolphin rv costs less than an average car – less than five figures -and is about the size of the inside of a 34′ sail boat. Yes, indeed, it is cozy. Rather snuggly. Quite intimate. Poetically-pleasing. And other honest euphemisms.

This helps us to do something we love: set up office in the fresh morning air amidst carpets of wildflowers and long, marbled floors of variegated pebbly treasure troves commonly known as hiking trails. To maximize gladness, it’s important to set up one’s office in the midst of a living, bird-singing, sun-shining gym with rock-climbing, tree-climbing, stream-swimming, forest-drumming, gleeful-hooting and sing-hollering options built in.

Back in San Francisco we came across a virtually unknown phenomenon right beneath our nostrils, yet as dynamic and worthy of vast international love as Aung San Suu Ky, Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King, and Nelson Mandela. Cecil Williams, the founder of Glide, is too humble and too busy to have a public relations team promoting what he and his wife Janice, and their intercultural congregation are doing – making miracles.

What is Glide?  Imagine taking L.A. area’s inspirational phenomenon called Michael Beckwith and his amazing Agape church, then plunking them down into the inner city of San Francisco. It’s fitting that Glide Church is called “The Soul of San Francisco”… It’s not so much a church of any religion, but a gathering place of lovingkindness, joy, fun and compassion in action. Lots of action.

Be prepared to cry several times throughout the service. The amount of love pouring out of the wildly powerful choir and joy-bursting congregation is incalculable. It’s no wonder that Bill Clinton, Sting, and hundreds of conscious celebrities frequent the church when in San Francisco. Warren Buffet donated 2.7 million last year to Glide, whose 65,000 volunteers feed the hungry with more than 1 million meals per year, house the homeless and medically care for them. Wow!

Glide is doing efficiently and effectively what the government is supposed to do, but cannot.

Just down the road, we discovered San Francisco’s City Lights Books which may be the USA’s only remaining book store deeply devoted to poetry. Good news: it’s alive and thriving. I have since been unable to walk anywhere without some wild, flamboyantly-funny, soul-dazzling poetry book in my hand and heart. The founder of this famous bookstore, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, wrote the hilarious and outrageously inspiring “Poetry As Insurgent Art” which now lives firmly in my pocket.

After all the hubbub and color of California, returning to the wilderness outside of Sedona seems surreal. We buzz out of town to arrive between towering canyons in minutes, camping without a single sound of civilization. Just the wind. Our own soft breathing. The symphony known as blood circulating (yes, you can hear it), the soft high-pitched communiques of stars, humming of the universe, and when we are really blissed with listening, the music of the spheres.

Silent Bliss Tip: This reminds me that between bouts as an Adventure Anthropologist, while working as a Forest Fire Lookout, i was living in ceaseless bliss for ten six-month summer seasons, tuning into these subtle sounds beneath the sounds we normally hear in this loud world. For more than a decade, i very rarely turned on a radio or listened to a cd, and never missed listening to recorded music in all those years.
